MENACING PROPORTIONS

Despatches reaching here from various parts of Palestine all go to indicate that despite local successes achieved by the British forces, the Arab rebellion has assumed a more menacing shape during the last twenty-four hours. As a result of these sudden developments it has been decided, says the "Evening Standard," to place the whole of Palestine under martial law as from to-day.
It is reported from Jerusalem that the Government has issued a decree placing the entire police force under military control.
