The lost golf ball problem has at last been solved, according to the inventor of one which emits a smoke signal as it finds its way Inte tall grass, ditches, or woods. A squib with a short fuse is in- serted in the ball and lighted be- fore it is driven, so that its flight may be traced and the spot where it finally comes to rest may be easily located.

HE 'Shanghai Lawn Bowls Association team sustained its first defeat in the Colony yesterday when they were beaten by a selected rink from the Police Recreation Club, at the Valley, before a large crowd of spectators which included Hon. Mr. T. H. King, Commissioner of Police and President of the Police Club, Mr. W. Heath, A.S.P., Mr. R. H. E. Marks, A.S.P., and Mr. A. Though Shanghai lost by 22 shots to 19, which included a five on the last head, they should on the general trend of the play, have been so far behind on the se- cond last head as they were all playing well and were decidedly un- lucky.

WITH barely four months to go to the Chinese New Year holidays, the time of nearly all our Interport contests, sporting circies in the Colony aro naturally curious to know, as I am, what Interports will be taking place and when.

Shanghai started the ball rolling this year by sending an Interport Lawn Bowls team here, which has so far up- held the Northern port's reputation for sport and sportsmanship, while the Combined Hungjao and Shanghai Golf Club team also visited the Colony and raised the question of the resumption of the Interport series between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Although the Northern golfers were convincingly defeated, they were by no means disgraced. They were not re- presented by their best.

The Malayan Kugby Union are to be congratulated on taking the initiative in proposing to send a team to the Co- lony and apparently much preparation was made before Hong Kong were sounded as to the advisability of send- ing a team here.

the final game, which will be held on February 11, and the Company likewise agreed to delay the sailing of their vessel even to the extent of holding it up till the next day!

I feel sure that the Colony, following this Interport against Malaya, will make every effort next season to con- tinue the series without, if possible interfering with the annual Interport match against Shanghai.

In this connection I am reliably in- formed that the Shanghai Interport team, if they do accept our invitation and come to the Celony, their visit will not coincide with that of the Ma- layan team, and so Rugby enthusiasts can possibly look forward to two out- standing" events.::
