SNOOKER BREAK OF 110!
JOE DAVIS COMPILES
82nd CENTURY
HORACE LINDRUM'S MAKES SLOW START
(By' AIR MAIL),
London, October 8.
Joe Davis, the world champion snooker player, came very close to equalling his world record break in his £100 match with Horace Lindrum (who receives 10 points in each frame) at the Music Hall, Edinburgh, yesterday, when he compiled a break of 110-his 82nd century break at snooker.
.
Davis, who now leads by 14, was won by Lindrum on the black frames to 10 in the 72 frames ball, and the second last frame also match, was in grand form in the fell to the younger man with little afternoon session yesterday, and to spare.
in the fifth frame, after Lindrum had broken the balls, the Chester- field player took every red.
He went on to take the yellow from the length of the table, but ran too close to the green, and, with all the other balls on, just failed to angle a slow shot the full length of the table.
At the conclusion of yesterday's. matches the scores read (Davis first)----69-49, 66-73, 112-17, 70-46, 110-28, 101-30, 66-67, 53-81, 41-84, 66-39, 54-59, 87-58.
ANOTHER BIG ONE
Davis's great break was followed immediately by another of over 80, and he had a big lead on, the after- noon session.
and,
In the evening Lindrum began to find touch for the first time, with the aid of several clever snookers, pulled up a little.
The first frame of the evening.

London, October 7. Peter Kane, world fly-weight boxing champion, is to undergo an operation in Wigan on Saturday for the removal of the little finger of his right hand: His ring career will not be affected, but he will not be able to fight for about two months.
Some months ago Kane suffered an injury to the knuckle of the finger, and an operation was performed. He in- jured the finger again during the re- cent fight in Liverpool, in which he beat Jackie Jurich for the world title, and a specialist has now decided that amputation will end the trouble.
Kane, unconcerned about the matter, said yesterday, "It will not be long be- 'fore I am ready to fight again.”
