STATE OF EMERGENCY IN NETHERLANDS.

A state of emergency is to be proclaimed by the Netherlands Government to-day to facilitate adoption of rapid-measures in the public interest.
Parliament will meet to deal with two urgent bills providing for measures against the rais- ing of prices and for the distri- bution of foodstuffs to prevent hoarding, which has already led to unrest in certain big towns.
The Minister for Economic Affairs has decided to establish an Economic Council of De- fence.-Reuter.

A British woman, “Mrs. J. H. Moyhing, was the victim of an unprovoked assault in the street here yesterday morning.
Mrs. Moyhing, who is the wife of the insurance manager of Messrs. Barly and Dodwell, had her face slapped by a Chinese of the student class as she was: pro- ceeding in her own chair along one of the city's main streets.
