MEETING HALF-WAY

London, To-day.

Mr. Neville Chamberlain was in consultation with his Ministerial colleagues half an hour after his

return to Downing Street.

The white-metalled plane con-| veying the Prime Minister had arrived at Heston aerodrome at 5.30 p.m. Upon landing he was welcomed by a number of prominent members of the Government, head- ed by Lord Halifax. L

Dr. Kordt, the German Charge d'Affaires, who was also present, greeted the Prime Minister with the words: "I hope you have been successful. At any rate, you have won the hearts of my fellow coun- trymen."

A LONG TALK

In a brief statement to the press, Mr. Chamberlain said: "I have had a long talk with Adolf Hitler. He was frank and friendly. What I have got to do now is to consult with my colleagues, especially with Lord Runciman. In the meantime, do not accept any unauthorised statements as to what took place. In a few days I shall have another talk with Adolf Hitler. This time: the Fuehrer has made known his intention to come half way to meet

me."

These last words evoked a cheer from the crowd assembled on the flying field, whereupon the Prime Minister added with a smile: "in order to spare an old man auch a long journey."
