'No More U.S. Fights For Farr'
MIKE JACOB'S BOXING THREAT
Title Bout Disagreement
(By AIR MAIL)
New York, September 2."
Mike Jacobs, it is reported here, is displeased with Tommy Farr. Farr's successive refusals to meet Maurice Strickland and Gunnar Baerlund have roused the Madison Square Garden promo- ter's temper.
"Farr is out unless he gets busy and wins a fight,” Jacobs is
· reported here as saying. “I am going to tell Jimmy Johnston to import Eddie Phillips from England. Phillips has beaten Tommy twice, and if Farr thinks that I need him he will soon learn that he has been misadvised.”
Walter St. Denis, Jacob's pub-1. licity chief, declares that Farr's boxing days in America are near- ly over unless he becomes more amenable and less particular as to his opponent.
"We are not offering
more
fights to Farr," said St. Denis. "We HARDCOURT
offered Baerlund and Strickland to him, and he turned them down."
"HE IS OUT!”

The real disagreement between the Welsh heavy-weight and the Madison Square promoter is said to be the determination of Farr to se cure a title fight with Joe Louis before signing for any other bout. Mike Jacobs says that he is willing to match Farr with Louis, but that the Welshman must first prove him self the best available challenger.
"OWE HIM NOTHING"
"I will not give Farr any kind of a written guarantee," said Jacobs "I do not owe Farr anything. He has been paid, and well paid, every time he has worked for me."

A masterly century by W. R. Hammond was the principal feature of Gloucestershire's innings against Sussex, at Gloucester, ́in: the last country match of the season-allocated to Sinfield for his benefit. He was at the wicket three and a quarter hours, hit twelve: 4s in his 116, and never made a mistake.
It was the fiteenth century of the season. and thirteenth for the country, the 144th of his career and his 100th for Gloucestershire. Going in with the total 100, he was fifth out at 321.
'Neale, whose partnership with Hammond produced 113 scored 50 in fifty-five minutes, and then took three quarters of an hour to score four more.
Hammond produced all his strokes to obtain his runs and the fourth wicket stand was particularly bright. During this partnership, no fewer than eight Sussex bowlers, including A J. Holmes, were tried.
