HERE has been one change in the First Class cricket averages THE

up to and including matches concluded on Friday, August 26, Ernest Paynter, the brilliant England and Lancashire left-handed batsman, being displaced by Leonard Hutton (Yorkshire) for se- cond place, while Walter Hammond still tops the list.. Paynter is third with Edrich fourth.

Bowes still tops the list of first class bowlers, while Verity is se- cond, having displaced Leyland. Fifteen bowlers have now taken

of over 100 wickets, Wellard, Somerset, having 167 wickets. ·

Don Bradman still maintains his batting average at over tha century mark, while W. A.
