THE CHINA MAIL, SEPTEMBER 2, 19885:

DELIBERATE ATTACKS ON CIVILIANS HELD PROVED AGAINST FRANCO

London, To-day.

The first report of the Commission for the Investi-

gation of air raids in Spain has been issued. It deals with some 50 raids and states that of 46 raids on Alicante, at least 41 were attempts to hit the Port area or railway station.

Of six raids on the city, two were deliberate attacks

on the civilian area.

R.A.F. NON-STOP

RECORD BID

Secret preparations are in hand at Cranwell RAF: station for a record long-distance formation flight. Four Vickers-Wellesley bombers are being finally tested for a non-stop dash to Singapore, 7,000 miles away.

The flight will probably be led by Wing-Commander O. R. Gay- ford. Nine officers and three ser- geants will take part.

The formation flight to Singa- pore, which may be continued to Australia, will be the first of a new series of long-distance flights by R.A.F. machines.

CATHOLIC ISSUE IN GERMANY

Danzig, To-day.

Alicante contains no munitions factories and practically no troops or stocks of war materials and at the time of the Commission's 'visit, importations to the Port were only coal and food.
