The coroner (Mr. W. S. Rothera) said that Dr. Muriel Newhouse, the anaesthetist, gave chloroform in mistake for ether.

Sister Malibett, theatre sister, said she prepared the table for Dr. Newhouse in the ordinary way. On the table were two bottles, side by side.

The child was supposed to have an enlarged thymus gland (a tem- porary structure in infancy thought to be connected with the develop- ment of the blood) but whether such was the case seemed to be im- material.
