DIRECT ALLEGATIONS OF PAYMENTS TO TAMMANY LEADER AS A "FIXER"
New York, To-day.
Evidence of alleged payments by gangsters to Mr. James J. Hines was given at a continua- tion of the trial of the ex-Tammany leader. George "Rosy" Weinberg, ex-business manager of "Dutch" Schultz, accused Hines of accept- ing $500 weekly as a "fixer" for the Schultz gang and caused a sensation in court by add- ing, "I, myself, paid Hines $500 in front of Hines' home.".
The witness declared that at a meeting attended by Hines and Schultz, it was agreed to pay Hines $1,000 as a down payment and $500 weekly. "Thereafter I saw Hines weekly and paid him $500 each time."
PALESTINE SHOOTINGS
London, To-day. A telegram from the High Commissioner for Palestine re- ceived at the Colonial Office this afternoon states that early yes- terday morning one Jew was kill- ed and another seriously wound- ed near Jaffa when shots were fired at the cart in which they were travelling.

About midday, a police patrol was ambushed near Beisan. They were attacked by a gang which numbered thirty and they killed four of them. The police suffered no casualties.
Shortly before midnight. near Tulcarm, Captain Oakley, of the Royal Scots was killed by the ex- plosion of a land-mine-under the lorry in which he was travelling.
Early this morning a goods train from Lydda was held up by a bar- ricade eight miles from Jerusalem and an armed gang, after shooting and killing an Arab policeman of the escort, made the crew alight and then set the empty train in motion backwards down the hill.
After two kilometres, however, the vacuum brake worked auto- matically and the train

Weinberg also stated that! Schultz demanded 60 per cent. of the profits of the multi-million dollar racket to take care of his mob "and Jimmy Hines."
Resuming his testimony after lunch, Weinberg alleged, that a he named, Magistrate whom agreed to "take care" of a police raid and "fix arrests."
