Fighting is still in progress on the north and south banks of the Yangtse, with the Japanese con- tinuing in their attempts to land troops above Kiukiang for a drive on Juichang, according to a Chinese military communique.
Six Japanese warships off Kingkuo steamed up- river in the morning and heavily shelled the Chinese positions guarding the south bank of the river in the vicinity of Chihu. Attempts
