HANSA CRASH 12,000 SHANGHAI CASUALTIES CHOLERA CASES

Shanghai, To-day. Concerning the fate of the Ger- man steamer "Hansa" which sunk in the neighbourhood of Nantung, following a collision yesterday with the British s.s. "Tungwo," it is now reported that there is a possibility that a portion of the 150 Chinese reported as having been drowned were rescued by river craft or swam shore.

The Captain of the "Hunsa," reported to be called Gottfried Ganter, was first fished out of the river by a Chinese junk and later taken on board H.M.S. Scarab.

Originally of Bremen, Ger- many, the "Hansa" had been structurally altered to adapt the vessel for freight and passenger service between Shanghai and Trans- nearby Yangtse ports. Ocean.
