First S. C. Wooderson, Britain's holder of the world récord for the mile, ran one of the races of his life to clock 1 min. 50.9 secs. for the half-mile, and thus beat Dr. Otto Peltzer's 12-year-old British record of 1 min. 51.6 secs.

Then three more cords were established, in this order:-

440 Yards Hurdles J. Patterson (U.S.A.), 53 secs;

by old time, 53.4 secs, Facelli (Italy), in 1929.

Javelin J. Varszegi (Hun- gary), 237 ft. 2 ins; old re- cord, 224 ft 8 ins, by A. Terry (Canada), in 1936.

440 Yards-A. G. K. Brown (Britain), 47.6 secs; old time, 48 secs. by G. L. Ram- pling (Britain), in 1934.

Amid this spate of record-break- ing, P. Walker (U.S.A.) became the only dual winner of the meeting by taking the 100 yards and 220 yards, 21.7 secs respec- in 9.9 secs, and tively. Altogether the Americans won seven of the fourteen events.
