Changkufeng Area Quietens Down
London, To-day.
The situation in the disputed area of the Changkufeng. Hills on the Russian frontier is quieter, from to despatches according Tokyo. It is reported from Soeul, that all Soviet troop detachments have been withdrawn from the frontier area. ́
This alleged easing. of the situa- tion is reported without comment but much is made of the fact that both sides have received consider- able reinforcements.
Japan has sent big detachments from Hopei and Shantung. It is also apparent from latest reports that the Russians have mainly applied themselves to strengthen- ing their technical and motorised forces and have concentrated tanks armoured car detachments at the main strategic points.
The Governor of Korea, it is-fur- ther reported, has order special air throughout precaution, measures

The situation on the frontier is very tense and considerable military activity on both sides yesterday, reports Reuter's special correspondent, from the Manchukuo-Soviet border, adding that the Japan-· ese are paying particular atten- tion to stopping Soviet planes from flying over Manchuria.
It is believed that as the re- sult of the very intensive pre- parations of the past few days, the authorities are satisfied that they can effectively resist at- tempts to violate the frontier by air.
There have been no further reports during the past 24 hours of attempts by Soviet planes to fly over Manchurian
Korean territory.

According to a dispatch that has just been received here, Chinese troops have launched an attack on the Japanese positions near Tsien- shan with the object of cutting off the Japanese line of retreat.
Further Chinese detachments are about to advance southwards from the Hwaoshan Hills in the direction of Tsienshan, Taihu and Susung.- | Trans-Ocean.
