The medley and free-style relays provided the outstanding races of the evening, the Portuguese Company winning the first after a very close struggle against the Beach Defence, while the Mobile Machine Guns won the latter event mainly through the effort lay (Teams of four). of C. Sloan, who swam a brilliant 50 yards, giving his team a big advantage which they maintained till the end.

The Diving was very close and Beach Defence only just nosed out the Portuguese Company by three or four points. There were some very good performances, notably by Stanley Lee, who was head and shoulders above the rest, and Ernie also performed Fowler, who creditably.

The Nursing Detachment 50 Yards free-style Championship only ...¡drew | three entries and Miss A. Dowbig- gin proved a worthy winner, main- taining an even pace over the two lengths.

....

The Officers beat the Sergeants by nearly half a length in their team race, although at first it look- ed as if the N.C.O's would win comfortably.

TOO GOOD

The Beach Defence proved much too good for the Mobile Machine Guns in their Inter-Unit Water Polo final, and won by 6 goals to 1. Stanley Lee was the outstanding player for the winners, scoring four goals, while S. H. Choo was really outstanding in goal for the winners. S. Fowler, filling the same berth for the losers, was also brilliant on occasion, but the rest of the Mobile team, with the ex- ception of G. H. Fowler, were very poor.

Poor marking and the inability to make the best of their chances were the main factors which con- tributed towards the Mobiles' defeat.
