11 MINUTES
(By AIR MAIL)
Jim Smith, of Middlesex, gavo another remarkabld exhibition of mighty hitting at Bristol, when he scored 50 runs in 11 minutes. off the Gloucester bowling, and mado 60 in 18 minutes.
This is the fastest 50 over made, and recalls the wonderful innings of E. Alletson (Notts), against Sussex at Brighton in 1911, when he made 189 in half-an-hour, 89 being scored in 15 minutes.
Smith, nearly caught off the first ball he received, cracked 'Sinfield, the England bowler, for three 6's in succession, took five more off Emmett, and also hit two 4's. ́ ́
in Smith obtained his 66 runs
sixteen hits made up as follows:
2.4 4 6 1 6 6 6 1 6 2 6 6 2.2 6. Against Sussex, a fortnight ago Smith raced to 68 (six 6's, two 4's) in 20 minutes, but his first 50 occupied 17 minutes.
