FOUR JAPANESE WARSHIPS REPORTED SUNK IN ATTACK BY AIRCRAFT

Hankow, To-day.

Four Japanese warships were sunk by Chinese air- craft yesterday afternoon near Anking, accord- ing to an announcement by Chinese Aviation Headquarters.

On receipt of information of good weather down river, eight Chinese heavy bombers are report- ed to have taken off to bomb the Japanese war- ships. They attacked a concentration of 50 vessels at Anking.

Hankow, To-day. Japanese ships along the Yang- tze, which have increased to over 100 in number during the last few days, are commanded by Admiral M. Osumi, and are engaged in damaging Chinese defence works. between Tikang and Tungliu.

In the vicinity of Tikang, more than 300 Japanese blue-jackets were killed or wounded when they tried to make a landing yesterday.

More than 1,000 Japanese troops. it is now reported, have landed at [Tikang and Pantsechi and occupied Niushihling and Fenghuangshan. two important heights nearby.

Throughout yesterday, thirteen Japanese gunboats kept up a con- tinuous bombardment of the Chinese positions at Tungliu.~- Central News.

NATANG ATTACK

Hankow, To-day. A successful bombing raid on the Japanese warships in the Yangtse River was carried out by a Chinese air squadron yesterday (Sunday) in the vicinity of Natang. It is stated that four Japanese boats were sunk and that the Chinese planes returned to Hankow without loss.—Trans-Ocean.

EGYPTIAN-IRAN ROYAL BETROTHAL

Cairo, Yesterday.

It is announced that as a result of negotiations between the Egyp-. tian Royal House and the Iranian delegation headed by Premier Mah- mud Jam which has been staying here for the past fortnight to set- tle details of the marriage between the Iranian Crown Prince Shahpur Mohammed Ria and King Farouk's sister, Princess Fawzieh, it has been arranged that the marriage contract will be signed in Cairo in March, 1989, and will be attested by the Rector of the famous El Azhar University, Sheikh el Ma- rachi.

The bridegroom - will personally attend the ceremony. The wedding will take place in Teheran but probably not before the beginning of 1940.-Trans-Ocean,
