Heated Exchanges On Japan's Opium Trafficking
Geneva, To-day.
A heated exchange took place here yesterday be- tween the Chinese and Japanese members of the Opium Committee of the League of Nations when the permanent Chinese delegate, Dr. Hoo, endeavoured to gain permission to show, a film before the Committee to reveal the methods, al- legedly being employed by the Japanese, for bringing about systematic demoralization of the Chinese through the distribution of opium. Violently protesting against a showing of the film, The Japanese Minister in Berne, Mr. Amau, threatened to resign from the Committee if the Chinese request was granted.

Refuting the statements of the Chinese delegate, the Japanese Minister asserted that through her measures in Manchukuo, Japan had ably demonstrated her ability to combat the ppium traffic.
ANTI-CHOLERA INOCULATION
The demand for anti-cholera inoculation has been so great that the Director of Medical Services has found it necessary to ask mem- bers of the non-Chinese community who do not retain the services of a private registered medical prac- titioner to co-operate by attending at the Queen Mary or Kowloon Hospitals between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. or 5 p.m. and He declared that when hostilities 6 p.m. daily for inoculation and commenced, the opium dealers fled not to attend at the other inocula- to Peiping because they could carry tion centres as announced in the on the trade there without interfer-Press, over the Broadcasting Sys- ence from the Chinese authorities.
