Twenty thousand Basques, who fled into France just prior to the occupation of their country by Spanish insurgent forces, have voted in favour of emigrating to South America in order to start life over again, reports the "Paris Soir."
SPANISH WAR CLAIMS CONFLICTING
Madrid, Yesterday.
A Republican Spanish War Ministry communique issued last night states that the enemy, sup- ported by forty-six aeroplanes, attacked the 43rd Division in-the Pyrenean sector after a heavy artillery bombardment of over 4,000 rounds.
The Republican troops offer- ed stiff resistance and the in- surgents left over a thousand dead on the battlefield.
The enemy succeeded in con- solidating their position at one point only, but was otherwise repulsed. An insurgent aero- plane was shot down.
