Hankow, To-day.

Although the Chinese Military authorities believe that there is no immediate danger of Hankow falling into the hands of the Japanese, they are busily engaged in constructing defence works. and massing troops in the Wuhan area.

The defence plans embrace the entire Hupeh pro- vince, especially the part north of the Yangtse. The defence operations have been entrusted to Gen- eral Chen Chien, Marshal Chiang Kai-shek's most trusted commander.
