Survey Of Summer Styles

New Length For Garden Party Frocks

We've had our dress shows this Day frocks offer few new ideas. The one pictured was in navy twill silk patterned in pink. Pink was used for the trimmings and a navy hat and shoes and gloves to match prepared the little lady to face any sort of adventure

that came her way.

season, and seen nearly all that there was to see, but there are still new styles coming in that are worthy of attention. Particularly interesting are the new evening line and a new type of garden party frock examples of which are shown in the accompany sketches. Violet-blue tulle, yards and yards of it, was used for the frock on the left

What makes it so original is the mid-calf skirt length. Violet blue ribbons tied across the waist also add to the attractiveness of the gown. The other frock was in white crepe with insertions of cut out daisies dividing the skirt and used as a hem for the petticoat be- neath. The coatee with elbow length sleeves was made in the daisy material. But the best feature of the frock could not be shown in the sketch. Every little daisy has been carefully outlined with black machine stitching!

The hats worn with these two frocks will repay study,

The first is a little affair of white flowers tied at the back with a bouffant tulle bow in the same colour as the frock. A white hat trimmed with a black ribbon and edged on the underside with black was the choice of the lady in the daisy frock.

Tulle was also used for a much beribboned evening frock. It looks very much like a redingote, with the tulle forming the petticoat part and satin for the top gown. The ribbon which is blue with white dots was used for the bows, belt and petticoat trimming. The whole ensemble puts one in mind of a coy Victorian miss.

The ribbon revival has brought many mid-Victorian patterns into view, as, for instance, this quaint › design in white spots on

blue ground which trims a blue evening gown in tulle and satin. The band and bow style of garniture is Vic- torian, too.

Top right.

Yards of violet blue tulle, with matching velvet ribbon at the waist, are used in the gown, shown on the left, cut to the new mid- calf length. Cut-out daisies, out- lined in black, panel the skirt of the white crepe frock. Similar daisies pattern the accompanying bolero jacket with elbow-length sleeves.
