"RED CROSS APPEAL TO GENEVA
Canton, Yesterday.
In a telegraphic message to the International Red Cross at Geneva, the Canton Red Cross has urged the international organisation to devise means to stop the Japanese wanton killing of mercy workers.
Giving details of the number of workers machine-gunned by the Japanese airmen during the raid, the message points out that these constitute a clear violation of in- ternational agreement which guar- antees the safety of rescue parties in time of war.
When the Red Cross workers were giving aid to victimised peo- ple, the message recalls, Japanese planes swooped down from their height and first strafed the party with machine-gun fire and later bombed them.
As a result, a large number were killed and wounded, including sev- eral leaders.
The message asks that the de- tails be communicated to all Red Cross Societies affiliated with, the Geneva International so that con- certed action may be taken to stop recurrence of such outrages. Central News. .
