China ponies: classified under "C" Class will figure in this event and, judging by previous results, I reckon Kui that Lancashire. Lass (Mr. Ip Ying) should carry off major honours. The same combination won the Mount Davis Handicap from the 12- mile post, and as that win was quite convincing, I think Lancashire Lass should account for the others, al-
though the distance is slightly longer. Scenic View came in second to

of the following:-
FIRST RACE: JUNE HANDICAP: ONE MILE.
com-
To-morrow's programme will mence with a race confined to the best of the "A" Class China ponies, all of which have been entered with the ex-) ception of Liberty Bay and Silkylight.
DEKKO (MR. PROULX). DESERT STAR (MR. S. W. TANG).
GOLDEN COW (MR. S. C. LIANG).
SMILING THRU (MR. C. EN- CARNACAO).
Mr. Eu Tong Sen has entered his two best ponies of this year in Cam- Dekko is a greatly improved animal, eronian and Desert Chief, and it island its recent successful runs should possible that they will both face the make it a serious challenger. On the starter, with Mr. Encarnacao handl-other hand, Golden Cow has ing the latter. Although called on gradually falling from grace, and un- to carry 168 lbs. it will be out of the running.
This pony broke the record for the two mile post distance when carrying 164 lbs. and, after its grand performance in winning the Easter Stakes, it seems improbable that any of the other entries will extend Desert Chief.
been
Desert Star has not done anything of note following the Annual Meeting, but it is still good enough to win.
In my opinion Smiling Thru should win as it has been doing remarkably I understand that Bear Claw may well lately, and in the absence of not accept here, its owner having de-Louis XIV and Planchet it should cided to reserve it for the Whitsun prove itself a little too good against Plate, on Monday. For second place, the other opposition. For an outsider, therefore, I look to King's Warden I recommend Salvage-Master, as it is (Mr. Needa), while Cameronian, a very lightly handicapped. fast moving pony over a mile, may give King's Warden a good fight. With only 140 lbs. to carry, Gladia- tor will crack up a fast pace, as it did in the Easter Stakes, and as an outsider is in the running.
RACE NO. 2: BONDI HANDICAP: SIX FURLONGS.
This race will be contested by "A" Class Australian ponies and has at- tracted six entries. In the absence of Strathroy, and especially after. its brilliant win at the previous meeting, Courting Eve has been penalised and given top weight of 165 lbs.
Good as this pony has turned out to be, I very much doubt whether it will be able to concede 10 lba. to Double Finesse and 17 lbs. to Lan- cashire Chips, both sprinters of un- doubted merit.
•
In the Broken Hill Handicap (about half mile 170 yards) at the Second Extra Race Meeting, Courting Eve was pipped at the post by Double Finesse. Then again, Lancashire Chips is the holder of the record for six furlongs: It will be seen, there- fore, that these three will probably provide a terrific finish, with the re- sult in doubt to the end.
I have a strong inclination to back Lancashire Chips as the winner, but Double Finesse is a positive menace, and I think that the best Courting Eve can do is to take third place. Blandford, Electron and Tornado Star are not fast enough over such a short race, and I do not expect any of them to be capable of creating an upset.
RACE NO. 8. WHITSUN HANDI-
CAP: ONE MILE.
RACE NO. 5: STONECUTTERS PLATE: SIX FURLONGS. This race has attracted the biggest entry. It is confined to China ponies, subscription griffins of this season, and ponies classified "E" Class, with the stipulation that winners of $1,000 or more in stakes are barred.
A fascinating problem is presented

griffins wi'l provide grand entertain- ment in this race, but I learn good authority that Louis XIV. the Champion, although entered, will not run again until the Autumn.
While driving at the 11th hole on the Hesketh course the shaft of his club snapped near the grip and the force of the follow-through swung the club head against the back of his skull.
For a few moments Padgham was stunned, but quickly recovering went on to complete the round in 76 strokes.

Ajax, Australia's New
Wonder Horse AJAX, Australia's wonder sprinter. laughed, and laughed and laughed after his runaway win in the A.J.C.-C. W. Cropper Plate, at Rand- wick, on April_23, when he gave the barrier-flyer, Pandava, two lengths start in the straight to finish with a two and a half lengths victory.
Perhaps his followers laughed, too, at the wonder starting-price of 2-1 on. Ajax, during his short career, has raced 16 times for 11 wins; 3 seconds, and once unplaced, to return £19,000 in stakes to date!
