SPORTS COMMENTARY

Is Benny Lynch Wise?

John Watson had the better of the tussle with Victor Ramsay, whilst Bob Duncan was very steady, as he needed to be against Cullen. Guy and Brown had an even game until nearing the finish when the visitors pulled away to secure the verdict by seven shots. LAST SADERPAYERAL CLOSE THE LAWN BOWLS LEAGUE

The K.C.C. secured what was probably the best victory of the day in beating the Indians on the Sookunpoo ground, but Club De Recreio also did well to overcome the Police away. Kowloon Dock came away from Austin Road with a useful point and might well have obtained all the spoils as victory was within sight when the last head even the last wood

Hong Kong Football Club were robbed of a triple win, a feat which Club De Recreio achieved, by a bare shot, K.B.G.C. snatch- ing this narrow win at Happy Valley. It is an unusual fact that of the 24 league points avail- able, no less than 15 were obtain- ed by teams playing away from home. The good work was kept up by three of the teams in the Third Division, K.F.C., with very strong team out, having a smashing win at North Point.

H. A. ALVES' BIG WIN

it

Lynch could lay the fly-weight cham- pionship down with the one hand and pick the bantam championship up with the other. He's good enough. But if he persists in clinging to the fly-weight illusion, one day he is going to meet fistic trouble. Benny Lynch is a mar- vellous young man-marvellous boxer, marvellous weight-shifter-but sooner or later he is going to meet, not a slip of a boy like Kane, or a Phillipine phan- tom like Montana, but a man who can match him all the way for strength and endurance at the weight.

That man may well be Jackie Jurich from America, and the result of this summer's projected fight in that case would be a Lynch with the fly-weight championship gone and the bantam one very far away indeed.

Nor does that make up into any pro- phetic effort-it just makes up into a morsel of commonsense. You can't train and be a feather-weight in March, and be a first-class fly-weight in May -not even if you are Benny Lynch.

Jockey Begs Off Winning Ride

FINE WIN OVER OMAR Sherriff secured the chief honours in the match at Craigengower, by his fine if narrow win, over U. M. Omar. He had the lead over the opposition almost from the beginning and a wonderful spurt in which he secured 10 shots in- four heads, made it a certainty for him. He had some excellent support from Gellatly, who played a fine game at lead. It was the opposing skips who figured most prominently in the Basa- Hollidge duel. Both reached very great heights and it would be invidious to single out the latter of the two. Hollidge made a heroic effort at the last head, when Dick Basa was count- ing-three.
