Private Thomson and Pri-

Capt. T. F. Mason, Royal Court Hotel, Kowloon, was fined $10 by Mr.' Q. A. A. Macfadyen this morning when summoned for driving without due care and cau- tion in Nathan Road. The sumons was a sequel to an accident in which Captain Mason struck the 20 m.p.h. speed limit signboard and was himself slightly hurt.

The accident occurred at 3 a.m. on May 1 and Inspec- tor Brittain said that Cap- tain Mason's explanation was that he swerved to the right to avoid a black car travelling at a high speed on the wrong side of the road. This, alleged Inspector Brit- tain was inconsistent with the fact that the right door had swung open. If the car had swerved to the right, he suggested, the left door would have swung open. The injuries received by Cap- tain Mason appeared to be too slight to be consistent with the statement that he fell out of the car before it struck the signboard.
