NEED FOR EVACUATION

Hankow, To-day.

At present there are 1,200 foreigners living in Wu- han, and although the situation is. quiet, ar- rangements are being made for their evacua- tion should conditions make it necessary.

At the same time a small band of foreigners, mostly Britons, is holidaying at Kikungshan, the mountain resort near the Hupeh-Honan bor- der, and the British Consul so far has not deem- ed it necessary to warn them to return.

Further north a certain amount of anxiety prevails regarding mis- sionaries and Red Cross workers in Kweiteh, Kaifeng and Chengchow, who have expressed the intention of remaining at their posts and letting the war "roll over us,”

Despite the British Consul's pre- cautionary warnings to British subjects in Kaifeng and Cheng- chow, most of them insist on re- maining, to assist wounded and refugees.
