In the afternoon Mrs. Garon won the first hole, but lost three out of the next four, the fifth because Miss Barton, whose high pitches were effective all day, put one of them close to the hole and sank the putt for a birdie three.

BRILLIANT RECOVERY

The Essex player got back the sixth, but Miss Barton made Я brilliant recovery to win the eighth and turned two up. Mrs. Garon won the 10th in three, and at the long 11th played one of the best shots that anyone could hope to play-a long brassie with intention- al pull which curled into the green, which had been slightly masked by trees on the left.

This master shot was practically wasted by three putts, but she got a half, and won the next by sinking with a four-yard putt for a two Miss Barton's tee shot lying а good deal nearer the hole than that.

That squared the match at long last, but Miss Barton's extra carry made her able to take the shorter route to the 13th, which she won in a fine four. Three putts over- took Mrs. Garon at the 15th, and Miss Barton finished the match by getting dead out of a bunker the 17th.
