BRITAIN'S NEW DAVIS CUP TEAM
E. J. Filby's Surprise Omission
C. M. JONES SELECTED IN
HIS PLACE
BUTLER MOST RELIABLE
(The following article which appeared in the "Morning Post and Daily Telegraph" on April 26, should prove interesting in view of Britain's narrow shave against Rumania and her present struggle against Yugoslavia.)
London, April 26.
THE L.T.A. have chosen the following side to re- present Great Britain in the Davis Cup first. round match against Rumania at Harrogate on May 7,9, 10: D. W. Butler, C. M. Jones, R. A. Shayes and F. H. D. Wilde.

SENORITA LIZANA'S FOURTH
WIN AT EDGBASTON
Senorita Anita Lizana won the women's singles at the Tally Hol tournament at Edgbaston, yesterday, for the fourth time, but she was fully extended by Miss Freda James before winning by 7—5, 5—7, 6—3. Senorita Lizana played the drop a lot, but Miss James cleverly coun-. teracted this by playing a return drop with great effect. It was an ex-. cellent match in which Senorita Lizana had little to spare.
She was so tired that after she and Miss G. C. Hoahing had been beaten in the final of the women's doubles by Mrs. R. E. Haylock and Mrs. J. S. Kirk, the Leicestershire players, she and F. H. D. Wilde scratched in the final of the mixed doubles to D. W. Butler and Miss F. James.
Butler was at the top of his form when, in the final of the men's singles, he defeated his fellow Davis Cup possible, C. M. Jones, by 6-0, 64. He played a sound all-round game and his volleying was parti. cularly good. C. E. Malfroy and Jones beat Wilde and Butler, in the fin- al of the men's doubles, after three sets.

The two League baseball games yesterday provided direct contrast in excitement, for whereas the U.S.S. If the Volunteers had reason to [bemoan their bad luck
the pre- vious day Recreio had infinitely more reason yesterday. Two runs scored in the second inning gave them a one run
lead which they held till the end of sixth when the Chinese equalised.
LEFT HIS BASE Pereira reached first on a hit at their last time at bat but very fooli- shly left his base and was tagged out..
Two-errors-by-the-Portuguese short stop permitted the Chinese to reach third base. Alvares, who had been pitching very useful ball, in his attempt to put the player out at third, threw wildly and thus the game was lost.
The Portuguese made several positional changes. Pereira taking over short stop with Alvares pitch- ing, and A. V. Gosano at left field. These changes strengthened the team, but Pereira was guilty of poaching and missed two catches that might have easily been held by A. V. Gosano.
