Proper Apology And Demand For Compensation
London, To-day. ́ Replying in the House of Commons yesterday to Lt.-Commdr. R. T. H. Fletcher (Labour, Nunea- ton), Mr. R. A. Butler, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, described the arrest and bay- onetting of Mr. H. F. Wilkinson in the Hung- jao area of Shanghai before being released by the Japanese with apologies.
Mr. Butler said that the British authorities in Shanghai immediately took up the matter when they heard of the arrest, and strongly protested to the Japanese.

TRAIN SMASH ON HANKOW CANTON LINE
Canton, To-day.
A tragic train collision on the Canton-Hankow Railway on the night of May 16, in which more than 200 persons, includ- ing passengers and railway staff members were killed and wound- ed, is revealed by reports just received.
The collision occurred at Milo- kang, a station about 73 kilome- be- tres north of Changsha, tween a southbound train from
Wuchang and a northbound freight train from Canton.
Owing to darkness, rescue work for the victims was great- ly hampered.
Traffic on the whole line was still disrupted yesterday as the wreckage was not yet cleared from the track.
The railway authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the collision, but it is learned that two station masters held respon- sible have been placed in cus- tody.-Central News.
