IRISH JOKE
Sir, I was greatly amused at your account in to-night's edition of Eire's new national hymn, id est, the "Song of the Soldier" as you erroneously term it.
It may interest your readers to know, that Eire's national anthem since the introduction of the Free State has been the "Soldier's Song", to which doubtless_you_refer. This- so called Hymn of Hate was com- posed, both words and music by u Dublin poet about the time of the 1916 Rebellion. Its tune in no way resembles that of "Rolling Home to Merry England." The tune which closely resembles the tune of that popular naval ballad is an Irish re-. bel song entitled "Kevin Barry;"
To the best of my knowledge nei- ther the "Sean Van Voght” nor “The Wearing of the Green" were ever regarded as national anthems of Eire.
So this time that "typically Irish joke" seems to be on you.
Yours etc.
IRISHMAN.
SYLVIA AND CHRISTIAN
Leaving Hong Kong after a sea- son rendered noteworthy by the fact that it has been extended twice by popular request, Sylvia and Christian, crack Continental enter- tainers in the Grill Room of the Hong Kong Hotel, will make their farewell appearances on Saturday night.
The two Hungarians are under contract to appear at the Interna- tional. Club in New York early in June, and will proceed direct from Hong Kong to the United States.
They have had a remarkably suc- cessful season in Hong Kong, and even the warm weather has not re- duced the large crowds in the Gripps, where the two entertainers are appearing nightly.
