EPISODE AT TSIYUAN

Hankow, To-day.

The Chinese populace of Hankow has been thrilled over the stand made by another "doomed bat- talion" in the town of Tsiyuan, in Honan, north of the Yellow River.

The battalion, according to Chinese reports, storm- ed the walls of Tsiyuan on the night of April 10, and occupied the Kwang Ti Miao, or Tem- ple of the God of War.

Hankow, To-day. Under cover of a most in- tensive artillery barrage, Jap amese troops launched a large-scale offensive against the Chinese at linggi yes- terday morning, according to a message from Gen. Li Chung-jen.

Although their lines have been heavily pounded, the Chinese are reported to be offering stubborn resistance in the vicinity of Lingyi and contesting every inch of the Japanese advance.
