Shanghai, To-day. John Gunther, the American journalist and author of "In- side Europe," interviewed by the "China Press," stated that the German advisers to the Chinese armies in Hankow are confident of China's victory.

Mr. Gunther added that the Japanese army is manifestly. superior to the Chinese in me- chanical weapons, but felt that China is better fitted for pro- tracted hostilities.
- These advisers have already trained 31 divisions since the war broke out, each consisting of from 12,000 to 15,000 men, who are already in the field

The new armies were being. slowly but surely integrated on a national basis as soldiers from many provinces are fighting side by side against Japan.
Hankow was the surprisingly complete absence of defeatism in Canton, where from the highest Government officials to the lowest street hawkers, all were confident and firm and were thinking along exactly the same lines where the hos- tilities are concerned. -
Perhaps the most striking thing of all to him, said Mr. Gunther, was the sight of high members of the German Army and Soviet aviators work- ing side by side, their national hatreds and antipathies forgot- ten in their overriding desire to help guide China's fortunes. --Reuter.

It is alleged that M. Codre the arrested Rumanian Fascist leader, planned to es÷ tablish a Nazi dictatorship. The police found evidence of the existence of Iron Guard. cells in various factories, and hold a circular letter written by M. Codreanu to local lead- ers of the Iron Guard all over Rumania in which he makes bitter attacks on the Govern- ment and the Prime Minister. "Can you put up any longer with these old ghosts; these - old men with their brains dried up? We shall no longer make requests. We shall simply take what belongs to us says the letter, which also included or- ders to Iron Guard legionaries to obtain new uniforms and· weapons and await the right moment for a march on Buch- arest modelled on Mussolini's March on Rome. Another' cir- cular letter to the legionaries quotes the Nazi Horst Wessel song, and exhorts them to "seize weapons, axes, scythes and cut the dogs down.” The police have been watching M. Codreanu for some months. He was arrested after discovery of letters signed by him among - the belongings of four monks. It is believed the Government is now determined to deal. drastically with the Iron Guard and will possibly send M. Codreanu to Snake Island, the *barren rock. in the Black Sea
where political offenders confined. Reuter.
