Final Selection Of Colony Hockey XI Satisfies
ONLY FOUR OF LAST YEAR'S
SIDE INCLUDED
team
The final selection of the Colony's Interport hockey (given below) to meet Macao on Sunday, on the Navy ground, must be satisfying to the many hockey enthusiasts who have followed the trials. Although two trials were necessary before a final decision could be arrived at, I published in last Monday week's issues, my idea of what the team would constitute, and was only out by one position, the right-half.
There have been several claimants for this position and although Ghulam Rasal was the ultimate choice, Wetton, of the Royal En- gineers, Gorman, of the Middlesex. and Hassan, of the Radio Sports Club were also in the running.
What I cannot understand is why J. Consalves, who was given a trial as right-back, was not tried out at right-half, a position he has invari- ably filled with credit. Gonsalves only missed being selected for the
right-back position because of a during the Internort Rugby match noticeable slackening off in the against Shanghai in the 1933-34 second-half of the first trial, last season. Sunday week.
MAN TO WATCH- MEETS WITH APPROVAL Macan have still retained their Ghulam Rasal's choice for the two brilliant wingers. F. Nolasco Ancelo. while Atherto right-half berth should meet with and A. all round approval. He has plaved Airosa. their inside.left, will have with conspicuous success for the to be carefully watched as he has Rainutana Rifles, in the centre-half been Macao's biggest scorer this berth, and is more at home in the season.
intermediate-line than he would] Alex Airosa, Macao's brilliant have been elsewhere, as suggested centre-half, will be supported by Laertes Costa, on the left, and these in other quarters.
I was very glad to note in the two will constitute the biggest final selection that the Selectors danger to the Colony's attack.
It is difficult to forecast next have decided to retain Partaub ' Singh, on the left-wing, and Pyara Sunday's result. as the Colony team Singh in the inside left berth, in-, has undergone a vast change from last year, only four of that team stead of switching them round..
Macas will be fielding very near-making an appearance next Sunday, ly the same team which played last although one of these has been year and the inclusion of Geoff moved to another position. Lammert, at left-back, will be look-U. B. Souza (goal); A. ̈ ́E. P. ed forward to in view of his fine Guest and Dr, El L Gosano (full- displays this season against visit-backs) I. Gonsalves and W. A. Brown (half-backs) and Lt Wright, ing teams from Hong Kong.
The last time we saw Geoff Lam-RN. and Nerain Singh (forwards) mert în action in the Colony was were members of last year's eleven.
