Hungary Limiting Activities Of Jews

Budapest, Yesterday. The draft of a new Hungarian law establishing numerous restrictions on Jews in practically all professions and industries, was announc- ed by the Government yesterday and will be submitted to Parliament to-day.

It is practically certain of passing, as the Govern- ment has a large majority in parliament.

The draft contains five para graphs which are:

1. The proportion of Jews to Christians is established at 20, to 80, and within five years this pro- portion must have been achieved in all branches of business, in- dustry and commerce.

The proportion applies not only to the number of Jews employed but also to salaries and wages, of which not more than 20 per cent. may be paid to Jews.

2. Jews may not be employed in public service of any kind.

IN THE PROFESSIONS 3. Press, film and theatre chambers are to be instituted within eighteen months, the same proportion to apply to member- ship. In the case of the press, the proportion must be enforced for each individual newspaper or

Over 21,000 Hungarian Jews have adopted the Christian faith since 1919 but these are not to be exempted.

According to the 1930 census, Hungary possessed 440,000 Jews out of a total population of 8,686,000.-Trans-Ocean.
