BEAUTY PROBLEMS OF SUMMER

The

beauty problems are freckles

and superfluous hairs.

They are both most noticable during the summer months when we wear scanty clothing and particularly desire our skin to ap- pear clear and smooth.

A little thought, a little pati- ence, and all the blemishes im- posed by the summer sun can be eliminated.

Freckles are spots of pigment showing through the skin, which the rays of the sun have a very active effect, thereby mak- ing the present marking much more pronounced. The sun's days - are so active that very often they produce freckles on skin during

the summer months, and then al- low them to fade away again during the winter.

But, the sun cannot always be blamed for this skin condition. Although its ray may make al- ready present freckles doubly noticeable, the fact remains that these small pigmented spots can be seen on parts of the body which are never exposed to the sun or air.

Freckless Prefer Blondes

Certain types of people are more susceptible to these blem- ishes than other types. For in- stance, red-headed people usual- ly have a large quantity of pigment in their colouring, and they are specially susceptible to freckling. Blondes, whose trans- parent skin shows every minor blemish, are also annoyed with these markings, but brunettes, with dark complexions, are very seldom troubled. This is not ow- ing to lack of pigments, but be- cause their skins are harder and have a greater protective cover- ing against the penetrating rays of the sun.

Freckles can be bleached from the face, but experience has shown that the lotion which is most effective with one person is an absolute failure with the next. Home Treatment Applications of freshly-cut le- mon, peroxide, acetic acid, white iodine may be used.

Dab the liquid on to the freckle with a small brush.

Pat a small quantity of skin food into the area treated, so that any tendency to roughness or red- ness will be combated.

If the spots become red it shows that the lotion is too strong, and it should then be- diluted with rose water.

Superfluous Hairs

And now we come to super- fluous hairs,

When removing these hairs, do not irritate them by pulling or shaving. This will cause them to grow stronger. The best method of temporary removal is to bleach them with peroxide and alum
