FAMED AMERICAN WAR FIGURE COLONEL HOUSE. PASSES AT EIGHTY

The death occurred yesterday of one of the most famous Americans of the Great War period, Colonel Edward Mandell House, at the age of 80:
A Texan, the late Colonel House (whose title was honorary) was largely instrumental by his
sup- port of the Democratic candidate, in getting Woodrow Wilson elected President.
He was President Wilson's right-hand man in the conduct of foreign affairs, and was the Chief Executive's personal representative in Europe in 1914, 1915 and 1915. He made a momentous visit to Germany just before the War and interviewed the Kaiser. It was during this visit that Col House formed the opinion that war was inevitable,

He was the chief United States delegate at the Allied War Coun- cil, and represented the United States at the making of the Armis- tice at Versailles. From 1918 1919 he was United States Peace Commissioner at Versailles.
