The club also expressed con- cern at the request of Matthews to be placed on the transfer list, and expressed a desire to retain him.

London, February 16. The Council of the Lawn Ten- nis Association have instructed their delegates at the annual meeting of Davis Cup nations on June 30, to support the proposal for playing the Davis Cup bien- nially instead of annually as at present.
They re-elected the team sel- ection committee which chooses Britain's international sides. The Committee is: Messrs. H Roper Barratt, F. R. L. Crawford, I M. Mavrogordato, A. D. Prebble and F. T. Stowe
The Council have also decided to play the British hard courts cham- pionships at Brighton from 1940 in- stead of Bournemouth. They will be played on the courts of the Sus- sex County LLC, Withdean, Brighton, subject to agreement be- |ing reached..
