(By "ADREM”)

LTHOUGH there was never anything really sparkling about yesterday's open tennis, there was nevertheless some sufficiently

even play to make most of the games interesting to watch.

BY WAY OF A CONTRAST ALSO, THERE WAS ONE THREE SET MATCH IN WHICH T. C. MONAGHAN'S EXPERIENCE FAILED TO CARRY HIM THROUGH AGAINST ALEC PEARCE'S YOUTH, ALTHOUGH THE VETERAN GAVE A VERY GOOD AC- COUNT OF HIMSELF.

Paul Kong and Lee Wai-tong were extended to a surprising extent by the U.S.R.C. pair, L. A. Newnham and F. T. Baines and the latter pair very nearly carried the issue to the third set, in which event, there is every likelihood that the match would not have been completed yesterday as the light was then failing fast.
