Working Girls Dress Budget

Miss Frieda Miller, of the New York State Department of Labour, has just told the world what there ought to be in every working girl's wardrobe. Here's her budget, bas- ed on investigations made through- out the State-

Twenty pairs of silk stockings a year.

Eight dresses and a blouse and skirt.

One jumper and four hats. Five pairs of shoes. Three pairs of gloves.

Two handbags and a dozen hand- kerchiefs.

A winter coat every three years. A spring coat every two years. And the annual clothing budget, according to Miss Miller, should amount to £40. That's 15s. a week.

So there is no hope for you if you make any bad choices.

Unless holes in sheets are very big, they can be successfully mend- ed with wide tape. This does away with the necessity of heming the edges of the patch.

A NOVEL NECKLACE. -You can make this attractive necklace yourself. All you need is a string of pearls or beads and a length of moire ribbon or velvet, long enough to go round the neck and tie în a bow at the back, as you can see from the sketch. Thread the beads in three strings very securely and sew the ribbon or velvet on each end. So that it does not get creas- ed and messy-looking through be ing -continuously tied and untied, fashion the ribbon into a bow and stitch it in place. A press stad or hook and eye can be sewn on for fastening, and no one will tell the the difference. Why not make a set in this way-a bracelet would
