If this has happened to you, don't despair. Ordinary methods may fail to make the skin really clean-look- ing, but a giant clean-up will leare your complexion as fresh and smooth as a baby's.
Start by protecting your hair, with a clean strip of material. Then dip a pad of cotton wool into cold cream and cleanse your face in the usual way.
After you have wiped off the cold cream, apply another layer and massage "your face gently for ten minutes. Use the tips of the middle ) fingers only, and work with a gentle rotary movement round the nose and mouth, an upward movement on the rest of the cheeks, and a firm- er pressure, from the centre out- wards, across the forehead.
The point of continuing with this message for at least ten minutes is that it stimulates the sluggish cir- culation, brings the blood to the sur- face, and refines the texture of the skin. Incidentally, one of the main causes of open pores is sluggish circulation, so if you are troubled with them, this treatment will help a lot.
After the massage, wipe off any surplus cream with a pad of cotton wool. You will be surprised at the amount of dirt that comes off-and you thought your face was clean!
- Soap And Water-
Next comes a soap and water wash, but not the ordinary quick wash you probably have every day. This special wash involves the use of a shaving brush, so beg, borrow, or steal a nice soft one. You might like, too, to use a mild shaving soap, as it foams so generously and makes 2 penetrating lather.
With the shaving brush, work the lather into every little nook and cranny of your face, particularly round the nose and chin where pores are apt to get clogged, and right ap into the roots of the hair. Take your time over it, because here again, you are stimulating cir- culation and benefiting the skin. Don't use very hot water-luke- warm is best.
When you have finished, rinse thoroughly in several changes of warm water, pat dry, with a soft towel, and you are ready for the next step, which is a pack.
Face Packs
What pack you use depends on your age and type of skin. A young girl with a good skin should use only a very mild, freshening pack, whereas an older woman with many lines can use something stronger. If your skin is sensitive don't use anything too astringent, and don't leave on any pack too long.
A very simple pack which suits most skins is made by mixing fine toilet oat meal with either milk or skin tonic. Smooth, this over the whole face, working it in with the finger-tips. Leave on for about ten migutes, then wash it off with warm water.
