Recreio Surpass Expectations Convincing Win

CARVALHO SILVA SUCCESSFUL IN ALL THREE GAMES
HUI AND YONG BEST LOSERS
(By "ADREM”)
MOST followers of the game thought that Recreio, on their own court, had more than an even chance of beating University "A,” in their return "A" Division League Badminton tie, which was played at Club de Recreio last night. Few, how- ever, whatever their views on the capabilities of the Portuguese on their own territory, thought that they would score as clear-cut a victory as they did:
ACTUALLY. I FELT THAT THE MATCH WAS WON AND LOST AFTER THE OPENING GAME OF THE EVENING WHEN L. A. CARVALHO AND A. M. SILVA, PLAYING SUPERLATIVE BADMINTON, COMPLETELY OUTPLAYED P. K. HUI AND K. L. YONG, WITHOUT ANY SHADOW OF DOUBT, THE MOST POWERFUL UNDERGRADUATE PAIRING.
There after Oliveira and Remedios beat T. F. Yong and K. S. Liew by 24-21 after leading at one period by 19-11, and Dick Alves and H. A. Barros were within an ace of beating C. O. and C. K. Lee and only went down after a dour struggle.
Apart from the first game, which, made a splendid curtain-raiser, the other two were very disappointing, both sides being overawed by the occasion and in making numerous errors, never revealed anything j like the standard to be expected from two of the finest teams in the Colony.
CONVINCING START BUT—! Starting the second round a game in arrears, Hui and, Yong commenced so convincingly, liter- ally smashing Oliveira and Reme- dios off the court, that Recreio stock dropped immediately by about 50 per cent.
Judging by that game, it appear- ed that the University players had merely been playing themselves in, and having found their touch, there would be no stopping them.
Then came the surprise of the evening. Alves and Barros who, in, their first game had given no indi-
