LAWN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP TIES FOR TO-DAY

Good Matches Anticipated

Weather permitting,, several in- teresting matches in the Colony: Tennis Championships should be witnessed on the H.K.C.C. courts: this evening.

The Singles match between F. A. Broadbridge, and

Land W. A.

should provide quite an interesting duel, while A. V. Gosano is expect- ed to overcome a steadier opponent in S. W. Liang.

In the Doubles Championship, Lak Ding-cheung and Wong Shiu- wing, powerful C.R.C. “A” Division League pairing, should easily ac- count for Wei Chung and Pang Oi- lam, but Barros and Gonsalves, of Club de Recreio, will probably re- ceive stiff opposition at the hands Fuk-nam and Cheng of Wong

Ping-yeung.

ROYAL NAVY'S VICTORY

IN INTER-SERVICES RUGBY TOURNEY

London, Saturday. The Royal Navy won the Inter- Services Rugby Tournament this afternoon when they beat the Army by two goals (10 points) to three tries (9 points) in a thrill- ing encounter in which the issue was in doubt until the last kick of the game.

The Navy owed much of their success to the magnificent kicking of Crawford, their International star, whose splendid conversion of the Navy's second try, scored near the corner flag, enabled the Sen- ior Service to obtain victory by one point in practically the last minute-Reuter.

EASTERN LOSE IN POOR GAME

Wong Mei-shun Shines

In Winners' Attack

South China “A” had no difficul- ty in entering the Third Round of the Senior Shield soccer competi- tion yesterday afternoon, when they defeated Eastern Athletic As- sociation by two clear goals in a very disappointing display.

Neither team appeared very energetic and there was a distinct lethargy about the game 25 2 whole.

Once South China had scored, the result was a foregone conclu- sion

:

The only thing that might have livened matters would have been a goal for Eastern. Had they found the net, it is more than likely it would have acted as a tonic for them and an incentive to spur South China into

some sort of energetic display.

MISSED CHANCE

Eastern had their chance in the second-half, but An She-ngok blun- dered badly when faced with an empty goal. Altogether, it was a ajgame of missed chances, both sets of forwards being guilty of failing to profit from easy scoring posi- tions and several glorious openings went begging.“

None of the players on view accomplished anything entstand-` ing. Choo Sui-hong, Mak Sui-hon, Lau Hing-choi and Leung Wing- chui contributed the best performances in a mediocre dis- the play. Tam Kwong-sum, on 14 right-wing, sent over a number of good centres in the first-half, but later lost his polish and failed to make much headway.
