ON LUNGHAI BATTLEFRONTS

Shanghai, To-day.

Japanese troops claim the capture of Kiasing, a town 15 miles west of Tsining, but all attempts by the Japanese forces in this sector to pene- trate further southward to the Lunghai Rail way appear to have been held up by effective Chinese resistance. Meanwhile, increasing numbers of Japanese troops are massing at various points on the north bank of the Honan stretch of the Yellow Ri- ver, but so far no crossing has been effected.

Japanese passage to the south bank, where strong Chinese orces are massed, would mark a new phase in the hostilities {
