Locating Lamps In The Room

tables at the arms of a sofa, ^al either end of a mantel, or chest, highboy or dresser. If they do not exactly match, they should be har- monious in size, line and design. Scattered lamps may show more variety.

Thus, in a modern room, one lamp may be of dark walnut com- bined with copper, a neighbouring lamp of the plain walnut and third in copper, ́or* copper

and glass. In a period room, one lamp may be in pewter, and one or two of fine porcelain in different pat- terns.

Standing lamps should be nicely balanced-never placed so that two or more are ranged along the same wall

unless they are used as formal torcheres at either side of a door or niche. In general, stand- ing lamps are used cater-cornered or opposite each other in a bias line.

SHEETS IN PASTEL SHADES

** - No longer need you limit yourself to the pure white sheets of yester- day, for nowadays sets in the most delightful pastel shades can be had for very little. If you do-not like sheets and pillow cases that are coloured, and still want something that is up to date and a little dif ferent, there are most attractive sets of white sheets and pillow cases with coloured borders.

When once your linen cupboard is filled there are many things you fought to think of if it is to be kept Fadequate and in good order.

First of all it is really necessary to know just exactly what linen you have in stock. Why not have a com- plete list saying where each article is to be found, neatly pinned to the inside of the- linen cupboard door? If you do this you will find it so easy to check up your supplies when you suspect a loss at the laundry. It will give you such a pleasant feel- ing of pride too, when you are able to add new purchases to the list!
