Gorgeously fine weather, perfect conditions for racing, furnished the Colony with the pleasant- est of surprises and there was a large attendance at 1389, 201, 591, 1806, 2457, 1321, 303, the Racecourse long before tiffin.

EVERY-ONE WAS DISCUSSING THE DERBY PROSPECTS WITH MORE ATTENTION BEING PAID TO SIR VICTOR SAS- SOON'S CANDIDATE, ALTHOUGH DESERT CHIEF REMAINED THE POPULAR FAVOURITE.

In the second race of the day, an annual incident occurred, Lovely Day (Shu up) and Olga (Ralph up) colliding. Both were unseated, but neither suffered any injury.
