THE CHINA MAIL, FEBRUARY 18, 1938.

(Continued from Page 18)

Criffel have returned good times, and if Bredon can only get out of the gate faster it will not be so easy to beat.

RACE NO. 4: THE CHINA

STAKES: FROM 1

MILE POST

I expect Mr. Dunbar will send out Bear Claw in this race under Mr. Mait- land, and I reckon that its only chal- lenge will come from Oak Bay (Mr. W. H. S. Davis), especially as I under- stand Happy Eve will not be running.

At the Double Tenth Meeting last year, over the same distance, Oak Bay had the better of Bear Claw by two lengths. I look to these two to fight out the finish, with Soldier of Britain (Mr. H. C. Pih) or Royal Scot (Mr. B. L. Tao) as possible outsiders. Glacia- tor (Mr. Marshall) is also dangerous.

I fancy Oak Bay to win, with Bear Claw second and Soldier of Britain third, provided the draw for positions is in favour of Oak Bay, otherwise Bear Claw should win.

RACES NOS. 5 AND 6: THE WONG-NEI-CHONG STAKES

(FIRST AND SECOND SECTIONS) HALF A MILE: Eliminating the ponies that will probably appear in the Valley Stakes, I have picked out the following as be ing about the best among the second line of defence in this year's lot subscription griffins:-

African Cat (Mr. Wong).

Astrik (Mr. Proulx).

Be Yourself (Mr. Encarnacao).

Dekko (Mr. Maitland).

Mustard (Mr. Tao).

Dark Hazard (Mr. Liang).

Ferry Bridge (Mr. Needa).

Lancashire Chap (Mr. Raymond). Lucky Eleven (Mr. Shu),
