FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES IN MALAYA
OPTIMISTIC NOTE STRUCK FOR FUTURE
(By “STICKS”)
COLONY HOCKEY PLAYERS AND ENTHUS-
IASTS ARE IN FOR A MAJOR DISAPPOINT- MENT, AS PROSPECTS FOR A QUADRANGU- LAR INTERPORT CONTEST BETWEEN HONG KONG, SHANGHAI, MACAO AND MALAYA HAVE COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED WITH THE NEWS THAT SHANGHAI AND MALAYA ARE UNABLE TO SEND TEAMS TO THE COL- ONY.
IT WAS PARTIALLY AS A RESULT OF SHANGHAI'S PRO- POSED VISIT TO THE COLONY, DURING THE EASTER HOLI DAYS, THAT THE INTERPORT - MATCH AGAINST MACAO WAS POSTPONED UNTIL THE SECOND OR THIRD WEEK IN APRIL, ALTHOUGH THE COMBINED MANOEUVRES WHICH COMMENCE ON MARCH 19 AND TERMINATE ON MARCH 26, MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO HOLD THE MATCH ANYTIME DUR- ING THIS PERIOD.
In Malaya, when the subject of a proposed visit to Hong Kong was first broached, there was instantaneous support, but when P. R. Kinsey, Hon. Secretary of the Singapore Hockey Association re- turned to Singapore, just recently, after a round trip to Shanghai, he found that the original supporters of the idea had changed their minds.

Croft, the Bradford wing threequarter, has turned pro- fessional, having signed forms for the Hull Rugby League Club. Croft, who is 21, has played in all York- shire's county championship matches this season.
There is not much of interest in the remainder of the programme. Francis Tsang, of St. Teresa's and Kowloon Tong, will be opposed to his-doubles partner, John Chen, and should manage to win what is al- most certain to be a well-matched and hard-fought encounter.
N. A. E. Mackay and A. Chan, another Kowloon Tong combination arè conceded very little chance against the brilliant University pair, C. K. Lee and C. O. Lee and are unlikely to collect more than half a dozen aces in the two games.
S. Y. Hon, of the Chinese "Y" will meet A. L. Fisher, of Free Lances in the final game
evening and, although Fisher, who is an extremely strong player, is likely to give a good account of himself, Hon should win.
