The British Government has been requested by the Chinese Central Government to mediate be- tween China and Japan, says the “Nichi Nichi,” which adds that the newly appointed British Ambassador to China, Sir Archibald Clark- Kerr, will arrive in Shanghai in the middle of February with peace proposals from London destined in the mind of their authors to "save the face" of the Chinese Government while at the same time taking into account Japan's posi- tion in the Far East.
