SOUTH CHINA TROUNCE

BRILLIANT PLAY

IN CORINTHIAN TRIAL ENCOUNTER

WONG MEI-SHUN AND CHAN TAK FAI SHINE

THE

THE South China Athletic Association secured a smashing vic- tory over the Hong Kong Football Association team yesterday on the Club ground in the trial game in preparation for the visit of the Islington Corinthians, the Chinese winning by 5 goals to 1.

The Chinese players immediately adapted themselves to the miserable conditions prevailing and had better control of the ball, but the adverse weather conditions, it was drizzling and the ground surface was very slippery, completely disorganised the Association team, who never really settled down to a sound combination.

The large gathering of tors, although feeling the effects of the weather, were thrilled by a fine first half display by the Chinese, whose perfectly executed attacking movements and rocklike defence were prominently featured.

On yesterday's play the majority of the Chinese players deserved a place in the Colony eleven to meet the Corinthians. Chan Tak-fai catching the eye through out the encounter and was an inspired leader,

WALES LOSE O RUGBY CLASSICA WITH 14 MEN

Scotland Triumph At Murrayfield McCARLEY SHINES FOR THE LOSERS

Murrayfield, Saturday.

A record invasion of 10,000 Welshmen to the International Rugby classic between Scotland and Wales in dull and threatening weather saw Scotland beat Wales by a goal and a penalty goal (8 points) to two tries (6 points) in a thrilling contest, played on an excellent pitch, watched by 60,000 people.

During the first quarter of an hour of the game the Welsh line had several narrow escapes,

Crawford. Scotland held their own in the scrums, and were very keen in their tackling, but Wales gradu- ally gained a foothold in their own half.

Scotland threatened with several smart moves, but Wales cleared, and then scored completely against the

run of play. A long kick ahead saw the ball cross the Scottish line, when Forrest stumbled, and "missed the touchdown, McCarley, a Welsh forward, following up closely to touch down for a try.

Bright, probably the best centre- half in the Colony at the moment, was always in the limelight in the Association team, while Sammy Tseng, in goal, and Bickford, on the left-wing, also shone.

Sheehan and Eraser, the two As sociation backs, commenced very shakily, although the former soon found his feet and

gave a very good display, Fraser improving as the game progressed.
