DEATH OF MR. JOHN GARDNER

It is with deep regret that we have to record the death, which took place at the French Hospital last night, of Mr. John Gardner, of the Accounts Department of the Asiatic Petroleum Company.

Mr. Gardner, known as "Jock" to all of his many friends, was ad- mitted to the French Hospital on December 22 and was operated upon for appendicitis the following day. Peritonitis subsequently....... set in.

Much sympathy will be felt for his widow, the former Miss Sybil Dalziel, to whom he was married less than a year ago.

⠀ KEEN SPORTSMAN As a sportsman, Mr. Gardner was a member of the Kowloon Cricket Club, the Kowloon Tong Club and the Y.M.C.AADA He had, at various times, played football for the Hong Kong Football Club and hockey for the Y.M.C.A., while, although he had not recently taken an active part in the game, he has alao`play- ed League badminton for the now. defunct Fire Brigade team..

. He was a keen Freemason, belong- ing to St. John and Eastern Scotia Lodges, S. G.

The late Mr. Gardner is also sur- vived in Hong Kong by a brother, Mr. W. D. Gardner, of Messrs, But- terned and Swire.

The funeral will take place to- day, the cortege passing the Monu- ment at 5.30 p.m.
